- What is Literica AI and who is it for?
- Literica AI is an AI research workspace for grad students, researchers, R&D teams, and competitive intel analysts. You upload your PDFs once — papers, reports, preprints — and get a research assistant that has actually read every one of them. It answers questions, drafts literature reviews, and maps citation networks, with every claim traceable to a specific page in your library.
- How is Literica AI different from ChatGPT or Perplexity for research?
- Generic AI chat tools work from internet training data — they don't read your specific papers and they invent citations. Literica AI only answers from your uploaded corpus. If a paper in your library doesn't support a claim, we say so rather than fabricate a reference. We also parse equations, tables, figures, and captions as structured content — the parts of a paper that generic chunking tools skip entirely.
- Does Literica AI train on my uploaded papers?
- No. Never. Your papers are stored encrypted and used only to answer your questions. We hold zero-retention contracts with our model providers (Anthropic and OpenAI), meaning your prompts and retrieved passages are not stored on their side beyond the request and are not used for training — not by them, not by us.
- What file formats does Literica AI support?
- PDF is the primary format, including scanned PDFs, multi-column layouts, and papers with complex equations, figures, and tables. We parse layout-aware structure rather than naively extracting text, so formula symbols, table rows, and figure captions are treated as first-class content. Support for additional formats is on the roadmap.
- Can I connect Zotero or Google Drive?
- Yes — both. Connect Zotero and new papers added to your Zotero library appear in Literica AI automatically; connect Google Drive and pick PDFs straight from any folder you already have there. Mendeley sync is also available. You can also export your generated literature reviews as Word documents or LaTeX files to continue working in your existing academic writing workflow.
- How does citation grounding work — what does 'every claim cites a page' mean?
- When you ask a question, Literica AI retrieves the specific passages from your papers that support the answer. Every sentence in the response is linked to an exact page and source document. You can click any citation to jump directly to that page in the original PDF. There are no invented references and no paraphrasing without attribution.
- Is there a free plan? What are the limits?
- Yes. The Explorer plan is free forever with no credit card required. It includes 10 papers indexed per month, 100 chat messages per month, 2 literature reviews per month, and 5 Lens searches per day — enough to evaluate the workspace with a real research project. The Researcher plan ($18/month, or $15/month billed annually) raises the caps to 150 papers and 10,000 messages a month, unlocks unlimited Lens searches, the citation network, priority parsing, and DOCX/PDF export. The Lab plan ($39/seat, 3-seat minimum) makes everything unlimited and adds shared editor seats, SSO, and an admin dashboard.
- Is Literica AI GDPR and HIPAA compliant?
- We are GDPR compliant and a Data Processing Agreement (DPA) is available on request. A HIPAA Business Associate Agreement (BAA) is available for Enterprise customers. SOC 2 Type II audit is currently underway (window opens Q3 2026). EU customers can pin their data to our eu-west-1 AWS region. See the Security page for the full compliance status table.
